Sunshine, July and Daily Tangents #8 Princess
Hello, It's Monday and welcome to another Sunshine, July and Daily Tangents post! I hadn't realised when I picked July for this project that the 1st falls on a Monday which means that the dates and the days of the week are matching up perfectly. It just works well in my head...
Last night I completed and uploaded day 7 (Dashing) at 10 minutes to midnight and I was very awake and ready to get to sleep. I got to my bedroom and started to clear away the busyness of the day off of my bed; clothes, craft bits, fabric; basically one of my piles that I meant to put away earlier. I heard a slight tapping and instantly looked to my left to find a massive thick black spider scuttling over a poster I have on the wall. It was huge. I had to try and get it out of my room without a sound- which wasn't easy with all the shivering down my spine producing sounds out of my mouth; wincing and cringing.
Long story short I managed to get rid of it without harming it or myself and only a few sounds. I then did a spider check under the covers and cushions.
This wasn't an enjoyable experience so sadly there are no pictures to show the internet. I couldn't sleep for the rest of the night as I kept imagining a nest of spiders climbing all over me as I slept.
With that image, let's begin...
As a child, my favourite princess was Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I remember feeling like she was an achievable Princess if I were to be one because she was very normal and down to earth. I loved that she wore a yellow dress and that she was kind and read books.
Another princess I loved was Ariel from the Little mermaid. I wanted so badly to be a mermaid... and actually if someone asked me if I wanted to be a mermaid today my answer would be a confident 'yes please!'
I loved that Ariel had red hair like I did and that she was confident in the ocean. She was fearless in the water which is what I wanted to be.
At the age of 5, these princesses were my role models and I would pretend to be them wherever I could. When I'd go swimming with my uncle and sister we would play the little mermaid in the swimming pool. In the bath, I would pretend to have a tail. I used to own little yellow gloves that had a picture of Belle on them and I remember the day we bought it in the shop. I would walk around the garden in little blue plastic shoes that had tiny heels- once I was strutting along the path when I slipped right over in them. I can't seem to find them in a memory after that.
As I got older my role models were characters in the programmes I watched. For a long time, it was Lizzie Mcguire played by Hilary Duff. I loved the idea of high school and walking around with books like she did in the episodes. I think to see her clumsiness made my clumsiness feel quirky. My admiration grew to Hilary and I listened to her songs and watched her films. Watching them now makes me feel nostalgic.
I developed a love for music and singing.
I got to a later age and became obsessed with Doctor Who where Rose Tyler was my absolute idol. In play, I would run around fighting aliens like she did. My love for Rose remains to this day.

I grew and changed with actresses such as Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus.
At this point in my life, I would say my role models are the Fletchers: Tom, Giovanna and Carrie. I am so in awe of their creativity and work ethic. Their ability to attach themselves to various creative projects inspires me to try multiple things and not limit myself. I think they are really positive influences for me to soak up.
So, having had all of these role models (and some in-between) has made me the person I am today. I like to think that it takes various influences to shape a person. I believe that every one of us is unique even with similar role models because we see different things in each character/ person and draw from so many that it's not possible for us all to be the exact same.
I draw inspiration from people in my life for different things- for example, I adore my mum and hope to possess her kindness and soft nature. My sister has one of the best laughs and makes things funny. I've had a lecturer who's so chilled she's horizontal, she would always tell people she believed in them which eventually I started saying without thinking, at first. Another teacher whose mind works amazingly and I've learnt so much from just listening to how she works things out and takes things in. My uncle who loved to learn and know how things work which I feel I have adopted.
There are so many attributes that I have and am still absorbing and inspired by. How can you have just one role model?
Thank you for reading day 8 of Sunshine, July and Daily Tangents. I will be back tomorrow for day 9; Toothbrush
Love,
Buddy Summer xx
