Sunshine, July and Daily Tangents #20 Space
Fluid Painting by Buddy Summer |
Hello and welcome to another instalment of Sunshine, July and Daily Tangents.
It has been a challenge to get on to this here blog post as the internet wasn't feeling like allowing me to edit this evening. It was a mission much like the mission to space- although not like it very much at all and I'm sure they experienced even more issues.
I've had a Yes day today and you will know exactly what I mean if you've watched Zoe Suggs Just Say Yes video (Which I will leave a link to here). If you haven't watched it and deal with anxiety, lack of confidence or shyness I think this is the video for you. It's essentially about saying yes to things and seeing where it takes you rather than giving in to the anxiety, lack of confidence or shyness and staying home where you could potentially feel worse; perhaps in the long run too. She talks about how nothing good can come from giving in to these negative feelings but it's very possible that something good can come from going out and stepping away from your comfort zone. Of course, you can try that thing that's out of your comfort zone and feel like it didn't go well. In these times it's important to give credit for trying it.
I was feeling anxious and not entirely great and I put this on hoping it would give me a gentle nudge like it did the first time I watched it. I had an option of going out and doing something today or staying at home and I was really struggling to decide. I watched the video, thought about it and ended up leaving the house and going to the said thing.
You know what? I had a better day than I expected. There were wobbles but there were also good moments too. I want to make good memories and going through old photographs has driven me to want them even more.
I really recommend watching this video and there's a blog post of Zoe's too which is in the videos description box. I would like to know if anyone has ever done this, Have you said yes to something that little bit out of your comfort zone?
Anyway, back to the reason we are all here...
Today's word is space and as if by magic today marks the 50th anniversary of the day three astronauts landed on the moon. For the first time in history, the moon's surface was marked with the footprints of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Micheal Collins.
My mind keeps wandering to the film Back To The Future today. I saw a headline that said something along the lines of: plans to build on the moon. Personally, it made me go: What? Really? with doubtful creasing of the forehead. This would be incredible and if returning to the moon is achievable again I think that would be cool, I think I was just surprised to read this. It made me think of Back to the Future because when they go into the future in the second film the inventions the movie's creators thought up seemed wild. But actually 2015 wasn't too far off of what was predicted; 3D films, face recognition, wearable tech knowledge, video calls. Back when the second film was made, people probably watched thinking Nah, that's not going to happen.
So there is hope for 'crazy' inventions and 'wild' ideas. What would we do without the creatives of the world 'ey?
Craft Interlude-
Just after a BBQ, right before another Yes thing, I felt the urge to make a fluid painting. But not just any old random fluid painting- a space-themed one! Truth be told I have found this technique fairly challenging but seen as I was having a what the heck day, I did it anyway...
I was crafty with what I used and painted onto: I found a plastic cup that we use for a water source when painting and I used my Pimms plastic cup from earlier in the day- that's right, I drank a Pimms! I also grabbed a transparent wallet that I recently recycled. See this blog post for my tutorial on Fluid Painting.
I'm going to see what I think when I wake up in the morning but the pictures turned out great. Thank you to my nephew for being my little assistant- it was brief but well appreciated.
This morning I heard on the radio the War of the Worlds main song and once I stated this I was made aware that today was the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. From this song onwards the radio station was playing songs that were space-themed. I really liked this and so I've written a short playlist of Space themed songs. Some I really like and some I thought were a bit... different. Listen at your leisure!
Playlist for a day like today:
- Fly me to the moon - Frank Sinatra
- Stargirl - Mcfly
- I Lost my Heart to a Starship Trooper - Sarah Brightman
- Princes of the Universe - Queen
- Walking on the Moon - The Police
- Space Oddity - David Bowie
- War of the Worlds soundtrack - Jeff Waynes musical version
- Life on Mars - David Bowie
- Starman - David Bowie
- Calling Occupants of Interplanetary craft - The Carpenters
As ever, thank you for reading today's post. I will see you tomorrow with day 21: Black and white, aka the exciting day I had not too long ago.
